How 3 Rivers Community Foundation Enables and Supports POPP’s Foster/Adoption Program and Spay and Neuter Clinic
As a non-profit, Pet Overpopulation Prevention relies on generous donations and grants to support our mission. One amazing grant that we rely on is the 3 Rivers Community Foundation grant.
What is 3 Rivers Community Foundation?
This organization pools funds from various endowments and invests them, distributing the proceeds to local non-profits in Benton and Franklin counties. This support helps local non-profits, like POPP, accomplish more and spread their mission further.
3 Rivers Community Foundation was created in 1999 and by 2000 the foundation received its 501c3 nonprofit status. Over its history, the foundation has been a part of some incredible impacts on the community, including establishing the Family Health and Wellness Fund and rolling out a Covid-19 Response Fund in 2020 to help non-profits impacted by Covid.
Every year, POPP applies to 3 Rivers Community Foundation’s for a grant.
How Does POPP Use Funds from the 3 Rivers Community Foundation?
The spay and neuter clinic in Pasco utilizes a variety of medical supplies, from anesthetics to gauze, sutures to vaccines. All these medical supplies are expensive, and even the little things add up! POPP uses the funds received from 3 Rivers Community Foundation to help pay for some of these supplies.
For example, this year POPP used the grant to cover a portion of January’s vaccine costs. By law, pets in Washington State must be vaccinated for rabies by a certified veterinarian. These vaccines can cost anywhere from $70 to $300 per pet at a regular vet. That’s why POPP offers important vaccines as part of spay/neuter packages! POPP also offers the DAPP vaccine for dogs and the FVRCP vaccine for cats.
POPP believes that giving community members access to these services is crucial, which is why they’re offered as a part of the surgery package. POPP also ensures that every feral cat trapped receives these vaccines, helping prevent the spread of those diseases in feral colonies and beyond. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of donations and grants from fantastic organizations like 3 Rivers Community Foundation.
“POPP truly appreciates the grants we’ve received from Three Rivers Community Foundation. We use their grant awards to help pay for medications and supply expenses at the POPP Spay/Neuter Clinic, on the corner of Court St. and 40th,” said Teresa Isaacson, Pet OverPopulation Prevention Board Treasurer. “Beyond financial support, the 3CCF staff also serves as a sounding board to help us navigate the growing pains we face as we operate the clinic. It’s wonderful to visit their office and sit down and chat about our challenges and successes. Their insights and suggestions for collaboration are an important part of what I value most about POPP’s relationship with 3RCF.”
