A Young, Brindle American Staffordshire Terrier and Plott Hound Mix Waiting for His Chance at Adoption After a Long Journey 

Meet Oliver Twist, a brindle and white beautiful American Staffordshire Terrier and Plott Hound mix who has been with POPP since he was eight months old. He was found alone on the side of a road as a puppy by a kind family who wanted to help, but couldn’t keep him. Hoping to give him a better chance, they turned to POPP. 

The goal is for POPP fosters to be a temporary solution, but one thing made Oliver Twist’s wait longer than most: his breed. Oliver Twist is an American Staffordshire Terrier and Plott Hound mix, and part of that mix is pitbull. With pitbull restrictions common in rentals and HOAs, Oliver Twist found himself passed over: not for who he is, but for what people assume he might be. His time being fostered was growing longer. 

The original plan was for the family who surrendered Oliver Twist to foster him until he was adopted. But when a sudden move made that impossible, another family member stepped in. There was one catch: Oliver Twist would need to travel with them on their trucking route across America. The hope was that after this cross-country trip, POPP could find a more stable foster to take him in. And so, off he went on a trucking adventure. 

Then POPP got a surprise call from a vet clinic. A clinic all the way down in the Lone Star State, Texas. Oliver Twist had been picked up as a stray, just like when he was first found, having somehow gotten loose and lost from his trucking adventure. Texas is at capacity to take in strays and, sadly, is a high-kill state. POPP faced two choices for Oliver Twist: to euthanize or fly him home.  

POPP chose Oliver Twist. 

After a first-class flight in cargo, Oliver Twist was flown back home to Washington. Back to safety. Back to people who believe in him. He is now in a more stable foster home with POPP, where he’s waiting to be discovered as the treasure that he is.  

Despite his rollercoaster of a young life, Oliver Twist loves with his whole heart. He absolutely adores every single human that he has ever met. He is great with other dogs. He’s a silly, playful good-boy who shouldn’t be overlooked because of his breed. If you believe that a dog is more than a breed and are looking for a fun-loving and athletic puppy, Oliver Twist could be the puppy that you’ve been searching for.
