Meet Maisy, POPP’s Spay and Neuter Clinic’s Newest Veterinary Assistant

Before joining POPP, Maisy was a dedicated Star Scout. Beginning to transition out of Scouts, after being a Scout, and wanting to remain involved with the community, Maisy was seeking volunteer opportunities. She found one when she participated in an event Scouts had let her know about: a POPP event with Subaru in 2024. From there, Maisy started volunteering with POPP at PetSmart adoption events.
After her pug Muffin died in 2025, Maisy went to the POPP Spay and Neuter Clinic for the first time to donate her dog’s things. After talking to Christina Coughlin, the Clinic Manager, Maisy decided to start volunteering every Tuesday and Thursday. After working hard and demonstrating a great work ethic, the clinic staff was impressed with Maisy’s work as a kennel assistant.
“She’s a hard worker. She’s smart and is quick to pick up on new things that she learns,” said Christina.
Maisy is now the spay and neuter clinic’s newest Veterinary Assistant. At the clinic, she assists with both the front desk and the surgeries. She helps move animals before and after surgery, keeps kennel spaces clean, prints surgery paperwork, and more!
Maisy and her family have lived in the Tri-Cities since March 2024. Her family has traveled all over the world, thanks to her father’s job. Before the Tri-Cities, Maisy lived in Augusta Georgia, the Middle East, and England. When she’s not working at the clinic, Maisy plays video games, attends adoption events, and bonds with Nagini-indi-zuchinni, her ball python. But most importantly, Maisy likes spending time with her pug, Popcorn.
At first, Popcorn was a POPP foster dog, and Maisy was only going to weekend pet-sit him as a favor to POPP. But Maisy fell in love fast. Now you can often see Popcorn at the spay and neuter clinic behind the front desk, sporting one of his many fashionable outfits.
Maisy loves working with animals and is very excited about how many animals POPP helps. Maisy also wanted to share,
“Get your animals fixed.”
